Why I Purchased a Glock 19X

By Dani V.

When I first started working for StealthGearUSA, I was pretty new to the concealed carry world and mindset. I didn’t know much about the different carry positions and really had no idea on which firearms I would be interested in carrying. In my first post, I talked about picking my first gun for concealed carry – the Ruger LC9. I have purchased a few other firearms since then, but I specifically want to talk about my most recent purchase, the Glock 19X, today.

The running joke here at the office is “who’s turn is it to buy a new gun” and we are always looking for the next best thing to add to our growing collections. What started out as an innocent conversation about the Glock 19X, the Glock 45, and the Glock 34 MOS, turned into peer pressure to go down to Gunnies in Orem on a lunch break – where both myself and our Sales & Marketing Manager made a purchase that day. (He walked out with a Gen5 Glock 34 MOS, you can read about his impressions about his purchase here.)

After purchasing my LC9, I knew that I wanted to have a larger framed firearm in my collection for more variety when I would go shooting at the range and also a higher mag capacity. I have heard nothing but good things about Glock; their reliability, ease of cleaning, and a price point that doesn’t break the bank. I liked the idea of a crossover between the Glock 17 and Glock 19 having handled both firearms before. I never really liked either of them separately, so the idea of combining the two was exactly what I was interested in. Plus, the unique coyote tan color was something that really intrigued me.

A few days after my purchase, I couldn’t wait to take it out and see how it handled at the range. After a few shots at the target, I was hooked. I love this gun! It is so much fun to shoot and I was able to be fairly accurate with it after only 15-20 minutes. I will be the first to admit that I don’t have the strongest hands so being about to shoot, load, and manipulate the slide on the Glock 19X with ease was the best part of this gun for me. After handling the Gen5 Glock 34 that our marketing manager purchased, I noticed that it had an extended slide stop lever. I really enjoyed how easy it was to use so I went online and found a Glock OEM Gen5 slide stop and swapped out the factory release for the extended lever on my 19X.

Now that I know I enjoy shooting my Glock 19X, I wanted to try and see if I would be able to possibly use this gun as my concealed carry. Being only 5’ 5”, I was curious as to where I could carry and also be able to conceal. Everyone has a different body shape and certain firearms, in my opinion, tend to work better depending on your body type. My typical carry is in the Appendix position and that was what I tried first with my Glock 19X. It was comfortable but for my body type, the extended grip was a bit of a problem. I would definitely have to dress in loose clothing that was a little bigger to be able to comfortably conceal the 19X.

Next, I wanted to try outside-the-waistband, so I grabbed a Ventcore OWB Flex and tried it on my belt, and this was the winner for me. Again, I would have to dress to make sure it was concealed but, living in Utah and it being cold and in the middle of winter it is very easy to do. The Flex holster holds the 19X securely against my body, is extremely comfortable, and by moving the holster a bit more forward, I am able to hide the grip easier.

It may not be my go-to firearm for my everyday carry, but I am very happy about purchasing my Glock 19X. For my intended use and preferences for when it comes to firearms, it fulfilled all that I was looking for. If there is anyone that is debating about purchasing Glock 19X, I would definitely recommend visiting your local range and checking it out for yourself.
